Black/African American Initiative
National Pancreas Foundation is the only medical nonprofit dedicated to advancing research, awareness, diagnosis, treatment, and support for patients living with pancreatic disease.
Black/African American Initiative
The National Pancreas Foundation has created a pancreas disease early education and awareness campaign with a focus on pancreatic cancer and pancreatitis in the Black/African American community throughout the United States. To produce this educational program, NPF has partnered with Krames and WebMD to focus on health disparities and access to healthcare for pancreas disease in the Black/African American community.
Many studies suggest that environmental and socioeconomic factors have contributed to the increased risk of pancreas disease among African Americans. Risk factors include genetics, cigarette smoking, Type 2 diabetes, and obesity. NPF’s Black/African American Initiative will address these issues with the hope of decreasing the incidence of pancreas disease in the Black/African American community.
